Send the link on LINE once you've finished \u2014 it works better than explaining out loud while the client is still half asleep on the bed.<\/p>\n<h2>The first 48 hours matter most<\/h2>\n<p>Lash adhesive hardens on the outside within seconds, but curing fully all the way through takes around 24\u201348 hours. This is when the work is at its most fragile.<\/p>\n<h3>During this window, avoid<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Water<\/strong> \u2014 no water directly on the eye area. Wash your face while avoiding around the eyes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Steam and heat<\/strong> \u2014 steam rooms, saunas, very hot showers, even leaning over a boiling pot.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hard exercise<\/strong> \u2014 sweat carries salt and moisture that interfere with the glue curing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Crying<\/strong> \u2014 if it can be helped.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eye makeup<\/strong> \u2014 especially waterproof mascara and eyeliner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After 48 hours you can go back to normal life, including swimming and showering as usual.<\/p>\n<h2>How to cleanse properly<\/h2>\n<p>The most common misunderstanding is &#8220;never let them get wet&#8221;, which is wrong, and creates a different problem.<\/p>\n<p>Lashes that are never cleansed accumulate oil, dead skin and dust, which leads to lash mites (Demodex), red eyes and itching. Just as importantly, that build-up degrades the glue faster.<\/p>\n<h3>The right way, once the 48 hours are over<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Cleanse the lashes once a day, every day, with a dedicated lash foam.<\/li>\n<li>Press the foam onto a soft brush, then brush gently along the lashes from base to tip.<\/li>\n<li>Rinse gently with clean water. No rubbing.<\/li>\n<li>Blot with tissue by dabbing, not wiping.<\/li>\n<li>Let them air dry, or use a gentle cool airflow.<\/li>\n<li>Brush them with a clean spoolie once completely dry, to set the shape.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Clients who cleanse daily get sets that last on average a week longer than clients who never cleanse. It sounds counter-intuitive, but it's obvious in regular clients.<\/p>\n<h2>What destroys lashes fastest<\/h2>\n<h3>1. Rubbing the eyes<\/h3>\n<p>This is number one. The mechanical force pulls natural lashes out along with the extensions, and thins the natural lashes over time.<\/p>\n<p>If they itch, press gently with a finger through the eyelid, or use artificial tears.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Oil-based products<\/h3>\n<p>Oil dissolves the glue directly. Avoid<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cleansing oils and makeup-removing balms<\/li>\n<li>Rich eye creams<\/li>\n<li>Oil-based foundations and concealers<\/li>\n<li>Some lash growth serums \u2014 read the ingredients first<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Look for &#8220;oil-free&#8221; or &#8220;for lash extensions&#8221; on the label.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Sleeping face-down or on your side<\/h3>\n<p>Three hours a night with the lashes pressed into the pillow visibly ruins the shape on that side and makes it drop faster than the other.<\/p>\n<p>If you can't change how you sleep, switch to a silk or satin pillowcase, which causes far less friction than cotton.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Lash curlers and waterproof mascara<\/h3>\n<p>A curler breaks both the natural lash and the extension at the crimp point. Waterproof mascara needs oil to remove, which takes you back to point 2.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that with extensions you don't need either one.<\/p>\n<h2>Normal things that aren't worth panicking about<\/h2>\n<p>Clients are often alarmed by these, though they're entirely natural.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Losing 2\u20135 lashes a day<\/strong> \u2014 natural lashes have their own life cycle. Everyone sheds several a day anyway, extensions or not.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Feeling odd for the first day or two<\/strong> \u2014 that's normal adjustment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lashes looking sparser after week 3<\/strong> \u2014 because shed lashes add up. This is the signal that it's time for a fill.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>When to contact your artist straight away<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Redness, swelling or stinging lasting more than 24 hours<\/li>\n<li>A sharp pain in one particular spot \u2014 an extension may be misplaced<\/li>\n<li>Unusually heavy clumped shedding within the first week<\/li>\n<li>Crusting or discharge at the lash line<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don't try to pull or cut the extensions off yourself \u2014 it damages the natural lashes.<\/p>\n<h2>The right fill schedule<\/h2>\n<p>Coming in every <strong>2\u20133 weeks<\/strong> is the best value, because<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enough of the original set is still there, which makes it cheaper than a full new set<\/li>\n<li>It takes less time<\/li>\n<li>The lash shape carries on \u2014 you're not starting from zero<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Leave it past 4 weeks and there's usually so little left that it has to be charged as a full set, which costs more and takes longer.<\/p>\n<h2>For artists: getting clients to actually follow this<\/h2>\n<p>Telling them out loud at the end of the appointment barely works \u2014 they've just been lying down for two hours and are in a hurry to leave. Try these three instead.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Send the link to this article on LINE right after the appointment<\/strong> While they're still in the frame of mind of caring about the work you just did.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sell a small kit with a brush and lash foam<\/strong> Clients who have the products in hand will use them.
