{"id":4254,"date":"2026-09-14T04:04:27","date_gmt":"2026-09-13T21:04:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maisonducilthailand.com\/lash-pricing\/"},"modified":"2026-09-14T13:30:51","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T06:30:51","slug":"lash-pricing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maisonducilthailand.com\/en\/lash-pricing\/","title":{"rendered":"How to price lash work so you're not working for free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most lash artists set their prices the same way: look at what the salons nearby charge, then go slightly under.<\/p>\n<p>It feels safe, but it's the reason so many skilled artists work extremely hard and still feel the money isn't enough \u2014 because the price didn't come from their own costs.<\/p>\n<h2>Start with the numbers you have to know<\/h2>\n<p>Before we talk price, you need to know these three things. If you don't yet, log them for two weeks and then come back to this.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Material cost per client<\/h3>\n<p>Count everything used in one appointment: glue, lashes, under-eye pads, tape, cotton, micro brushes, cleansing foam, gloves.<\/p>\n<p>The easiest way to work it out: take everything you spent on consumables in a month and divide it by the number of clients you saw that month.<\/p>\n<h3>2. The real time each client takes<\/h3>\n<p>Not just the time holding the tweezers. Include<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the consultation before you start<\/li>\n<li>setting up and preparing the bed<\/li>\n<li>the actual work<\/li>\n<li>clearing up and sterilising<\/li>\n<li>answering messages, booking and following up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most artists underestimate by around 40%, because they only count time on the bed.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Fixed monthly costs<\/h3>\n<p>Rent, electricity, water, internet, equipment depreciation, advertising. Even working from home you still have electricity and depreciation.<\/p>\n<h2>The minimum-price formula<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Minimum price = material cost + (the hourly rate you want \u00d7 the real hours used) + a share of fixed costs<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Try it with real numbers. Suppose:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Material cost 150 baht<\/li>\n<li>You want to earn 400 baht an hour<\/li>\n<li>Real time, everything included, 2.5 hours<\/li>\n<li>Fixed costs 6,000 baht a month, and you do 40 clients a month = 150 baht per client<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Minimum price = 150 + (400 \u00d7 2.5) + 150 = <strong>1,300 baht<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you currently charge 900 baht, you're paying money for the privilege of working on your clients.<\/p>\n<h2>Why being the cheapest is a trap<\/h2>\n<p>Competing on price has problems you can't see at first.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>You attract clients who choose on price<\/strong> \u2014 who will move to someone cheaper the moment one appears. And one always appears, because there's always somebody new pricing lower.<\/li>\n<li><strong>You have to work more for the same income<\/strong> \u2014 which means more tired hands, fewer breaks, and worse work on the last clients of the day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>You have no budget for good materials<\/strong> \u2014 cheap glue means work that drops early, clients who don't come back, and a stronger feeling that you have to cut the price again.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Raising prices later is far harder<\/strong> \u2014 a client who came for 700 won't pay 1,200, even if your work is three times better.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How to raise your prices without losing existing clients<\/h2>\n<p>If you know you're priced too low, here's what actually works.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Give at least a month's notice<\/strong> By personal LINE message, not a public announcement. Regular clients should hear before everyone else.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Give a reason that benefits them<\/strong> For example, moving to a higher-quality adhesive that lasts longer, or allowing more time per client for finer work \u2014 not &#8220;my costs went up&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Let existing clients book once more at the old price<\/strong> within a month \u2014 framed as a thank-you, not an apology.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Raise in steps<\/strong> 15\u201320% at a time, once a year, is better than a single 50% jump after holding out for three years.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In practice you will lose some clients, around 10\u201320%, which is normal \u2014 and usually the group that already took up most of your time.<\/p>\n<h2>Price by type of work, not one flat rate<\/h2>\n<p>A single price for everything means you lose money on the hard sets and overcharge on the easy ones.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Full set<\/strong> \u2014 full price<\/li>\n<li><strong>2-week fill<\/strong> \u2014 around 50\u201360% of the full price<\/li>\n<li><strong>3-week fill<\/strong> \u2014 around 70% of the full price, because there's more to remove and more to replace<\/li>\n<li><strong>Over 3 weeks<\/strong> \u2014 charge as a full set, not a fill. Explain this to clients at the first appointment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Removing another salon's work<\/strong> \u2014 always charge separately. It takes time and nobody wants to do it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Volume \/ mega volume<\/strong> \u2014 at least 30\u201340% above classic, because it clearly takes more time and more skill.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Three answers worth having ready<\/h2>\n<p>Price questions are coming. Having the answer prepared means you won't discount out of panic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Why is it more expensive than elsewhere?&#8221;<\/strong><br \/>&#8220;That price covers the two and a half hours that make the set last four weeks. Worked out per week, it's really not very different.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Can you do it cheaper?&#8221;<\/strong><br \/>&#8220;This price is what it costs to use materials that genuinely make the work last. But if you'd like to try something first, there's a lash lift at a gentler price.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;That place only charges 590.&#8221;<\/strong><br \/>&#8220;I understand. Every salon uses different materials and different amounts of time. If you try it and feel you'd like work that lasts longer, you're always welcome back.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Notice that none of these says anything negative about another salon, and none of them apologises for the price.<\/p>\n<h2>In short<\/h2>\n<p>Your price should come from your costs and your time, not from a fear that nobody will come.<\/p>\n<p>An artist who prices correctly has fewer clients but more income, more rest, and many more years in the profession.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Pricing and building an income from this profession is part of the online course opening in October 2026.
