5 Lash Application Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)
Applying lash extensions is a true art. But even the most passionate lash artists can fall into bad habits that affect the final result. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your technique, here are 5 common mistakes β and how to make sure you avoid them.
1. Using Too Much Adhesive
π§ This is one of the most common beginner mistakes. While it might feel like more glue equals stronger retention, the opposite is often true. Too much adhesive can lead to clumping, longer drying time, and uncomfortable lashes for the client.
π‘ Tip: Use a small drop of adhesive and dip only 1β2mm of the extension base. Less is more!
2. Poor Isolation
β¨ Failing to properly isolate the natural lash can cause multiple lashes to stick together, leading to discomfort, breakage, or premature shedding.
π‘ Tip: Practice isolating lashes cleanly with a steady hand and high-quality tweezers. Good lighting is essential!
3. Incorrect Lash Placement
π Placing the lash extension too far from the lash line β or directly on the eyelid β will affect retention and can irritate the client.
π‘ Tip: Ideal placement is 0.5β1mm from the lash line. It should never touch the skin.
4. Not Adjusting for Eye Shape
ποΈ Every eye is different. Using the same lash map for all clients can result in awkward or unflattering results.
π‘ Tip: Learn lash styling for different eye shapes. A custom map shows your client you care β and keeps them coming back.
5. Ignoring Aftercare Education
π§Ό Youβve created the perfect set… but the client has no idea how to care for it. Retention issues may not be your fault, but the client wonβt know that.
π‘ Tip: Always give clear aftercare instructions β verbally and via printed or digital handouts.
